Girls on the Run of Dayton Expansion
Girls on the Run® of Dayton expands into Clark County, OH
Girls on the Run of Dayton will add Clark County, OH to their service area for the Fall 2014 season. This expansion, funded by the Women’s Partnership Funds (Springfield Foundation), will add the fourth county to the council’s territory.
Girls on the Run of Dayton is in its fifth year in the Miami Valley, now serving girls in Clark, Greene, Miami and Montgomery counties.
“Our growth has been nothing short of amazing,” said executive director, Angela Lewis, “and with the strong support of the Women’s Partnership Funds we can now spread our message of health, wellness and high self-esteem to a new county.”
Girls on the Run of Dayton hosts their program in the fall and spring of each year. The program, focused on self-esteem, team building and the world around them can be best explained by the program’s founder, “The finish line is only the beginning for our Girls on the Run participants. All of the girls leave the program with a new-found belief in themselves and the knowledge that “Hey! If I can do this, just imagine what else I can do.”
About Girls on the Run
Girls on the Run is a transformational physical activity–based positive youth development program for girls in 3rd to 8th grade designed to develop and enhance girls’ competencies to successfully navigate life experiences. At Girls on the Run, trained and supportive coaches and volunteers teach life skills through dynamic, conversation-based lessons and running games. The program culminates with the girls being physically and emotionally prepared to complete a celebratory 5k running event. Started in 2010, the Dayton council serves Clark, Greene, Miami and Montgomery Counties. Learn more about our local program at www.gotrdayton.org.
